Election poster on fire in Gurudaspur Complaints of reciprocity of the two chairman candidates

The incident took place at Dharabarisha union of Gurudaspur upazila of Natore. Abdul Matin Master (Boat) held a press conference in the morning and independent candidate Hajeda Begum (Horse) staged a protest in the afternoon over the incident of setting fire to the poster of the chairman candidate in Dharabarisha Union of the upazila late on Tuesday (December 21).

According to the complaint, the supporters of Abdul Matin Master set fire to the posters of independent chairman candidate Mosha. Her son Habibur Rahman has lodged a written complaint on behalf of Hajeda Begum with the Election and Returning Officer. There, he accused 25 people, including Abdul Matin’s son Sohan, of mentioning 11 names.
Awami League nominated (boat) candidate Abdul Matin Master held a press conference at his residence at 11:30 am on Wednesday. On the other hand, independent candidate Hajeda Begum (Horse), who was deprived of nomination, staged a protest and a street rally in Nayabazar around 3:30 pm.

Awami League nominee Abdul Matin Master said in a written statement that his father and his elder brother were the chairman of Dharabarisha Union. He is running for two terms as chairman and current party nominee. Late at night, his opponent, led by independent candidate Hajeda Begum’s son Habib, set fire to their own posters and spread propaganda in his name on social media Facebook. That is why they have lodged a written complaint with the election office. Abdul Matin claimed that no member of his family or any of his supporters was involved in the incident. Opponents are jealous of his popularity and certain victory and are spreading propaganda. He strongly condemned the incident and demanded punishment for the culprits. Alhaj Abdul Majid, Milton Uddin, Sohanur Rahman Sohan and other activists were present at the time.

On the other hand, supporters of independent candidate Hajeda Begum staged a protest at Nayabazar Point at 3:30 pm, blaming Awami League nominee Abdul Matin Master for setting fire to the posters. At the end of the protest, Hajeda Begum claimed that she was the popular candidate of the union. To resist him, Abdul Matin Master set fire to the poster at night with a display of intimidation. He drew the attention of all concerned including the Election Commission for violating the Electoral Code of Conduct.
