World Bank Managing Director (Operations) Axel van Trotsenberg is arriving in Dhaka tomorrow (Saturday) on his first visit to Bangladesh.
During his three-day visit, Van Trotsenbagh will attend an event on January 22 to commemorate 50 years of partnership between Bangladesh and the World Bank Group and the country’s significant development achievements.
This was announced in a press release of the World Bank on Friday.
World Bank MD Axel van Trotsenberg said, ‘Bangladesh has shown the world what can be done to successfully reduce poverty through successful innovation in human development, women’s empowerment and climate adaptation.’
He said, ‘The World Bank is proud of its 50-year partnership with Bangladesh and to be a part of the country’s remarkable development journey. I am looking forward to witnessing these achievements firsthand during this visit.”
During the visit, Van Trotsenberg will meet the Prime Minister, Finance Minister and other senior government officials, civil society representatives and development partners and visit World Bank-supported projects.
He will be accompanied by Martin Riser, World Bank Vice President for the South Asia Region.
