Dhaka Metropolitan Police Joint Commissioner Biplab Kumar Sarkar said, until we consider this area (Paltan) completely safe, traffic and public movement will be stopped here. We are not targeting any individual. However, there is no room for political activities here at the moment.
Today (Thursday) at around 1.30 pm in front of Paltan police station, he said this in response to the questions of journalists.
Biplab Kumar said, we now call the party office of BNP in the language of law, place of occurrence (PO). That is why we have cordoned it off. No one is allowed to enter there, except for experts, crime scene people. Nothing will be allowed to happen here until the police work is done.
He further said, we (police) were on alert yesterday. There was no intention to beat or attack anyone. But at one stage when the BNP activists blocked the road and obstructed public movement, the police repeatedly requested them to leave the road. At one stage, there was an ambush on the police present at the spot along with DC Motijheel. When the police are attacked, in the interest of the safety of public life, we are forced to conduct operations. Police were attacked, cocktails were thrown, sabotage was attempted, all kinds of sabotage materials were brought here. We have seized all the elements of sabotage from here.
Biplab Kumar Sarkar said, it is very sad that subversive material is found in the office of a political party, cocktails are found. It is a pity that it does not fit into any political culture. We are now treating the BNP office as a place to hold cocktails. Our crime scene unit is working.
In response to the question about the installation of CC cameras in front of the party office of BNP, he said that apart from the political party office, there are many business offices, houses and houses here. CCTV cameras are being installed for their security. It is the sacred responsibility of the police to provide their security. Whatever is necessary for the safety of the common people will be done by the police.
When asked whether the decision regarding the assembly is being changed or not, the joint commissioner of DMP said that it is a different matter. The DMP Commissioner allowed those who organized the rally to Suhrawardy Udyan. DMP will not allow assembly at any place where public movement is disturbed.
Regarding the case, he said that the process of many cases is going on, cases are being filed in many categories including explosives, attempted sabotage, attack on the police. Those arrested will be sent to court today in those cases.
