Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandaker Golam Farooq said that BNP will not be allowed to hold rallies on the streets. Suhrawardy Udyan or Nayapaltan, where will BNP be allowed to hold a rally – he said this in response to the question of journalists.
The DMP Commissioner said that the assembly will not be allowed on the streets without the ground. However, BNP has not yet proposed the name of any other place except Suhrawardy Udyan. A delegation of BNP met with the DMP Commissioner to discuss this issue yesterday Sunday (December 4) afternoon.
After the discussion, Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP convenor Aman Ullah said, We have been saying from the beginning that we will hold a rally in Nayapaltan. I came to discuss this today. BNP Publicity Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and a senior police officer have been asked to discuss and decide on this matter. They will discuss about the venue.
Meanwhile, in a press conference on Monday, BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas said that it has been decided to hold the December 10 rally in Nayapaltan. However, if the administration wants, BNP will give an alternative name to the preferred place. Other than Suhrawardy Udyan and Turag Par any satisfactory place within Dhaka city will be considered.
Mirza Abbas said to reporters whether BNP prefers any alternative place to Nayapaltan, we will choose it if we are told. But now I will not tell the name.
