A woman was killed after being hit by a private car in Shahbagh of the capital. Her name is Rubina Akhtar (45). At this time, the pedestrians beat up the driver. The accident happened around 3 pm on Friday. The deceased woman lived in Tejgaon area.
Meanwhile, the driver who was beaten up by the crowd was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with serious injuries. Chalak Azhar Zafar Shah is a former Associate Professor of International Relations Department of Dhaka University (DU).
Eyewitnesses said that the victim was riding the bike of Debor Nurul Amin (40). When the bike reached Shahbagh, the private car driver pushed him from behind. The victim was pinned under the private car and the driver started towards Neelkhet by hanging on to her.
People around the back repeatedly asked the car to stop, but the driver continued without stopping. Then the crowd chased from behind. At one time, people blocked the car at Neelkhet intersection. Later, the woman was rescued from under the car in a coma and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared her dead.
At that time, the mob beat up the driver of the car and severely injured the car. At one point the police came and controlled the crowd and took the driver to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
When asked about this, Shahabagh police station OC Noor Mohammad said that the injured woman has died. The driver is under treatment at Dhaka Medical. The vehicle has been impounded.
