Police have arrested Mulhota Swami Firoz Hossain (26) in connection with the incident of cutting off the hair of a housewife and torturing her out of the house in Naogaon for not paying the required amount of dowry. He was arrested from Barisal Bazar area of ​​Chandgaon upazila of Chittagong on Tuesday night.

The arrested Firoz was sent to court on Wednesday afternoon. Firoz Hossain is the son of Rezaul Islam of Madhupur village in the upazila.

It is learned that on January 23, 2015, Firoz Hossain of Madhupur village of Raninagar upazila married Hasina Begum (24), daughter of Hossain Ali of Bhandarpur village. On the wedding day, Hasina’s father gave her son-in-law a dowry of Tk 1 lakh to do business as per the agreement. After some time, Firoz Hossain started pressuring his wife Hasina Begum to bring another 1 lakh rupees. As Hasina did not accept her demand, her husband and her family members started torturing her. At one stage, on February 22, Hasina Begum had a heated argument with her husband Firoz Hossain. As an opponent, some relatives of the husband’s family tortured Hasina. Hasina became unconscious when the torturers beat her randomly all over her body. At that time, her husband Firoz Hossain and others cut Hasina Begum’s hair with scissors. Later, Hasina was kicked out of the house. Housewife Hasina Begum, who was the victim of the incident, filed a case at the Special Tribunal for the Suppression of Violence against Women and Children in Naogaon on February 26, naming her husband as the main accused.

Raninagar Police Station OC Shahin Akand said the case was registered at the police station on March 13 as per the court order. The accused in the case including Mulhota have been absconding since the incident. On a tip-off, Raninagar police on Tuesday night arrested Mulhota Swami Firoz from Barisal Bazar area of ​​Chandgaon upazila in Chittagong with the help of local police. He was sent to court on Wednesday afternoon. The operation to arrest the other accused in the case is continuing.
