Students injured in eve-teasing in Shibganj

In Shibganj, Chapainawabganj, a school teacher and an office assistant were physically assaulted while protesting against eve-teasing on students who had come to vaccinate against corona.

The victims were identified as Sajidul Islam, 30, an assistant teacher at Monaksha Girls’ High School and Zahidul Islam, 26, an office assistant. The victim Sajidul Islam lodged a written complaint with Shibganj police station on Tuesday night. Earlier, the incident took place at the premises of Upazila Health Complex on Tuesday morning. According to the complaint, Assistant Teacher Sajidul Islam and Office Assistant Zahidul Islam along with more than 400 students of Monaksha Girls’ High School arrived at the Upazila Health Complex in the morning to ensure 100 per cent corona vaccination of students as per government instructions. While the students were standing in line for the vaccination, they suddenly teased Bakhate Shimul (26) and Himel (25) of Dewan Jaigir Mahalla of the municipal area. When the students, assistant teacher Sajidul Islam and office assistant Jadul Islam protested, they were attacked and injured.

Later, 8-9 scoundrels came to the spot, beat them up and threatened to leave the Upazila Health Complex premises. Realizing the matter, the officials and employees of the health complex came to the spot and rescued them and arranged for their treatment. Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer. Saira Khan said that after receiving the news, they rushed to the spot and rescued the injured. At the same time the police were informed. He demanded punishment for those involved in the incident. Meanwhile, Academic Supervisor of the Upazila Secondary Education Office Abdul Mannan confirmed the incident and said that the incident site has been inspected after receiving the news. He has already discussed the matter with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Shibganj Police Station OC and requested for immediate action. Shibganj Police Station OC (Investigation) Asaduzzaman confirmed receiving the complaint and said that the police are working to arrest the culprits. However, no case has been filed in this regard. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shakib Al-Rabbi said the OC has been directed to take action against those involved in the incident.
