The actress is going to appeal against the order of the High Court postponing the decision to cancel Zayed Khan’s candidature. Confirming the matter on Monday afternoon, Nipun’s lawyer Barrister Mostafizur Rahman Khan said, “We are preparing to appeal to the Appellate Division.” I will file an appeal against the order of the High Court tomorrow.
Earlier on Monday afternoon, the High Court had rejected the decision of the Appellate Board to reject the candidature of Zayed Khan. At the same time, the court issued a rule asking why the decision to cancel the candidature would not be invalid. The rule hearing date has been fixed for February 15. A High Court bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman passed the order.
Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Advocate Ahsanul Karim and Advocate Nahid Sultana Yuthi appeared for Zayed Khan in the court. Barrister Rokon Uddin Mahmud was in favor of Nipun. Deputy Attorney General Bipul Bagmar and Assistant Attorney General Selim Azad represented the state.
Later, advocate Ahsanul Karim said that the court had stayed the decision to cancel Zayed Khan’s candidature. Besides, the letter of the Ministry of Social Welfare has been suspended. Besides, the court asked Zayed Khan to continue his activities as general secretary.
Earlier in the morning, Zayed Khan filed a writ petition in the High Court bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman challenging the validity of the decision to cancel the candidature of General Secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association. His lawyer Nahid Sultana Yuthi confirmed the matter to Dhaka Post.
According to the preliminary results of the 2022-24 election of the Bangladesh Film Artists Association, the candidature of Zayed Khan, who had won the post of General Secretary, was rejected and Nipun was declared the winner. Sohanur Rahman Sohan, chairman of the Election Appeal Board, made the announcement after a meeting on the evening of February 5. The election of the Film Artists Association was held on 26th January.
