Locals rescued a man named Abdur Rashid from Shibganj in Chapainawabganj and sent him to hospital. Police have arrested his wife Julekha Begum on charges of being involved in the incident.
The incident took place in Saratnagar Guddipara area of Shampur union of the upazila on Thursday morning. The seriously injured man is the son of Sajjad Ali of the area. According to the locals, Abdur Rashid got married to Julekha Begum a long time ago.
The family was going well with the boys and girls. Suddenly, two years ago, Zulekha ran away with a boy from the house next door. Then Abdur Rashid got married again. Julekha Begum recently returned. Angered by this, the new wife went to her father’s house. He did not come on Wednesday. In the morning, the family members saw Abdur Rashid strangled. Injured Abdur Rashid’s brother Zakaria said, I saw my brother well at night. Abdur Rashid does not live in this house except his wife and one child.
In the morning it was heard that he was lying in a state of strangulation. Abdur Rashid’s wife Zulekha Begum said, “I woke up in the morning and went out to sing. When I went home, I saw my husband lying in a state of strangulation. I called everyone and sent them to the hospital. But they are all blaming me.
Shampur Union Parishad member Abdul Khaleq said that Abdur Rashid had gone to fetch his new wife two days ago, but he did not come. Sent divorce papers on Wednesday. Seriously injured Abdur Rashid has been sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for treatment. Shibganj Police Station OC Farid Hossain said Julekha Begum had been detained for questioning.
