Five people have been killed in a shooting by an army member in the Eastern European country of Ukraine. Five others were injured in the incident. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a military base in the central part of the country.

Reuters and the Qatar-based Al Jazeera news agency reported the information in a report on Thursday.

A report released by the Ukrainian police on Friday states that a member of the National Guard had shot dead five security personnel at a military base in central Ukraine. At that time 5 more people were injured in the firing of that army member. The cause of the shooting was not known.

Police said in a statement that the incident took place early Thursday morning at the Pivdenmash missile factory in Nipro, Ukraine. The accused soldiers shot and killed five others while handing over weapons to the soldiers. The accused soldier later fled the scene. Police have launched a search for the fugitive, Reuters reported.

Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said the attackers fired at others with Kalashnikov rifles and then fled the scene. The ministry confirmed that five people were killed and five others were injured in the attack.
