Bail of 9 chairman candidates has been canceled in the just-concluded (January 5) election in Gurudaspur upazila of Natore. In that election 26 chairman candidates contested in 6 unions of the upazila. Upazila Election Officer. Ferdous Alam has confirmed the matter.
According to the Upazila Election Office, 3 out of 6 candidates in Nazirpur Union of the Upazila have lost their bail. The total casting vote in this union is 22 thousand 992. Independent candidate Mostafizur Rahman (Pineapple) lost his bail after getting less than 1 percent of the casting votes. He got 809 votes, independent candidate Abdul Majid (Telephone) got 126 votes and another independent candidate Golam Rasul (Horse) got 1348 votes but lost the bail.
The total casting vote in Biyaghat Union is 15,152. 4 out of 6 candidates in this union have lost their bail. The candidates who lost the bail are- Abdur Rashid Mridha (Independent) He got 51 votes for the spectacle symbol. Islamic Movement of Bangladesh candidate Faruk Hossain (hand fan) got 271 votes, Shahadat Hossain (independent) got 419 votes with telephone symbol and Sahabuddin (independent) got 229 votes with horse symbol but their bail was canceled.
Chapila Union casting vote 21526. The bail of 2 out of 6 candidates of this union has been canceled. The candidates who lost the bail are: Shahjahan Ali (Islamic Movement Bangladesh) got 723 votes for the hand fan symbol and Hedayetullah (Independent) got 61 votes for the spectacle symbol.
Election Officer. Ferdous Alam said that according to the election rules, the candidates’ bail will be canceled if they get less than 1 percent of the total casting votes. The bail of 9 chairman candidates will be canceled as they got less than the prescribed casting votes.
Note: The total number of voters in 7 unions of the upazila is 1 lakh 42 thousand 63. 1 lakh 11 thousand 856 votes have been cast. Of these, 1 lakh 30 thousand 228 valid votes and 1 thousand 639 invalid votes. The average casting rate is 69 percent.
