Khetlal (Joypurhat) Representative:
The family and villagers of Burail village in Khetlal upazila of Joypurhat have organized a human chain demanding justice for the murder of housewife Farida Begum. An hour-long manbandhan was held at Burail Trimohoni junction of Khetlal to Joypurhat road at 12 noon on Sunday organized by the villagers. Everyone involved in the human chain chanted slogans demanding fascism.
Speaking on the occasion, Mofazzal Hossain, father of slain housewife Farida Begum, alleged that on November 26, her daughter Farida Begum was tried to commit suicide by suffocating her husband and mother-in-law. Although the matter was reported to Khetlal police station, the police filed a case on November 28 alleging fabrication of incitement to murder without listening to him. My daughter’s husband Sohail Rana and mother-in-law Hajera were arrested after the case but father-in-law Abdul Gafur is absconding. As no progress was made in the case due to non-cooperation of the police, he filed a murder case in the Joypurhat wise Amli court on December 2 for justice. He claimed that if the case is properly investigated, he will get justice like murder of a girl.
Ataur Rahman, director of the local Burail DS Fazil Madrasa, Mominul Islam, a lecturer of the madrasa, Shihab, Sharful Islam and more than three hundred men and women from Burail village took part in the human chain.
Asked about this, Khetlal Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nirendra Nath Mandal told reporters, “The body of Farida Begum, wife of Sohail Rana, a day laborer from Burail village, was recovered on the morning of November 26.” Accused Sohail Rana and his mother were arrested after a case was filed that night on the charge of inciting the murder of the victim’s father Mofazzal Hossain. Attempts are being made to arrest the rest of the accused. He added that there was no negligence on the part of the police in the case.
