Gurudaspur (Natore) Representative.
Natore’s Gurudaspur Upazila Awami League leaders have been accused of encouraging rebel leaders to work for them. Candidates who have been nominated for boats in 6 unions of the upazila have made the allegation in the run-up to the fifth phase of elections on January 5.
The boat candidates complained that no action was taken against the Awami League leaders despite supporting the rebel candidates ignoring the party rules and regulations in the 5th phase of UP elections. This has created a backlash among the local and grassroots leaders and activists of the Awami League.
Boat candidate from Nazirpur Union Md. Shariful Islam Sharif said that except for some grassroots leaders and workers, ordinary people of the area are working for the boat. No leader of Upazila A-League is working for the boat in any road meeting or public connection. He further said that Awami League will only say in its mouth, Awami League will remain in office, Awami League will enjoy the opportunity and will vote against the symbol of independence, the symbol of development, it will not be against the symbol of Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina. If you get a boat, you will get willow wood and if you get another one, people will never accept it.
On the other hand, Md. Monirul Islam Dolan, a boat candidate from Khubjipur Union, said that the leaders of the Upazila Awami League were creating divisions and divisions in the party by inciting rebel candidates in each union. Which is not good for the future. If you do not like your boat, keep quiet. The development that the people’s leader Sheikh Hasina has done is enough for the boat candidate. Do not come to fish in muddy water.
Lecturer Mostafizur Rahman, a boat candidate from Mashinda Union, said that the leaders of the upazila have fallen in love with the rebel candidates. They are working against the orders of the people’s leader Sheikh Hasina and party discipline. All the doors are open for the leaders of the upazila. There is still time to vote for the boat otherwise you will be charged at the center.
According to the investigation, there are rebel candidates in 6 unions of Gurudaspur upazila, including 18 to 20 independent candidates.
When Gurudaspur Upazila Awami League president Mohammad Anisur Rahman was asked about this on his mobile phone, he said, “We are voting for the boat.” But the boat candidates are not calling us. How do we go if no candidate is called.
Gurudaspur Upazila Awami League General Secretary Municipal Mayor Shahnewaz Ali said, “As long as we are doing Awami League, those who got boats have never been able to get close to party work.” Besides, those who have been deprived of nomination are also doing Awami League. Even after that, in the interest of the party, we are with the people’s leader and working for the boat.
When asked, Natore District Awami League President Prof. Md. Abdul Quddus said, “As far as I know, those who are in important positions in the Upazila Awami League are not doing any work for the boat candidates.” They are not seen in the field. I don’t understand how they are working for the boat.
