A teenager named Shakib Islam (18) died after taking a bath in a pond while visiting a friend’s house at Chirirbandar in Dinajpur. He is the son of SI Mariuzzaman of Keranipara in Rangpur district’s Sadar upazila. The incident took place at 12 noon on Thursday at Jagannathpur village in Saitara union of Chirirbandar upazila.
According to local sources, Rangpur Sadar Police Station OC (DB) Aminul Islam’s son Shuvo and his two friends went to bathe in the family pond at Jagannathpur village at around 12 noon. At this time, while taking the bath scene (selfie) on the mobile phone, they sank into the deep water of the pond. When the housemaid saw the matter, she started shouting. People in the area rushed to the spot and rescued them and took them to Chirirbandar Health Complex. The doctor on duty there declared Shakib dead. The other two were given first aid and then recovered.
Chirirbandar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Subrata Kumar Sarkar said Rangpur Sadar Police Station OC (DB) Aminul Islam along with his family and his son and two friends visited the village last Tuesday. When OC (DB) Aminul Islam returned to work last Wednesday, his son and friends remained. Later on Thursday, a friend named Shakib went down to bathe in the pond and drowned.
