Bicycle rider Shahjahan Ali (61) and pick-up passenger fish trader Ashraful (35) were killed on the spot when they were crushed under a pick-up van carrying fish in Parbatipur. Besides, pick-up driver Monir Hossain (25) and passenger Ziarul Haque (38) were seriously injured. The accident took place at around 12 noon on Tuesday in the western Sherpur area of Parbatipur-Fulbari road. The deceased were identified as Shahjahan Ali of West Sherpur village and Ashraful Nilphamari, son of Mohammad Basunia of Kanchanpara village in Sadar district.
According to eyewitnesses, Shahjahan Ali got on the Parbatipur-Fulbari-Dhaka Asian Iway in front of his house before going to Bhabanipur Bazar to fetch medicine by bicycle. Top passenger fish trader Ashraful was crushed under the pickup. Shahjahan Ali and Ashraful were killed on the spot. Locals rescued four people including the driver of the pickup van and sent them to Parbatipur Upazila Health Complex. Seriously injured pickup driver Monir Hossain has been shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital and Ziarul Haque has been admitted to Upazila Health Complex.
SI Abul Bashar, in-charge of Bhabanipur police investigation center, said he came to the spot and found two bodies. Relatives have been informed that arrangements will be made to hand over the body in a lawful manner when they arrive.
