Gurudaspur (Natore) Representative.

The fifth phase of Union Parishad elections is being held on January 5 in Gurudaspur. For the first time, Nadi Dewan of the third gender is contesting the election. There has already been a huge response among the voters.

She is contesting as a candidate for the reserved women’s seat number 1, 2 and 3 of Kumarkhali village in Biyaghat union of the upazila. The pen of the river has become a symbol in the election. There are 6 candidates vying for the reserved women’s seat in wards 1, 2 and 3.

Taking part in the election, Nadi Dewan is continuing his campaign and getting a lot of response from the voters in the campaign. Despite being of the third sex, he has no problem. However, he said that even though his rival candidates tore down his posters, the issue has been resolved by the locals. Besides, he is not having any problem at present.

Everyone is helping, cooperating and encouraging him in various ways. Talking to Nadi Dewan, a pen marker candidate in this regard, he said, “I am getting the support of people from all walks of life, including the elders of my 1st, 2nd and 3rd wards.” Also, Roxana Akhtar Lipi, Upazila Mahila Vice Chairman, is cooperating with me overall. People in my constituency are sympathetic to me. I am 100% optimistic about the victory in the assurance given to the voters even if the rival candidates tear my posters from time to time.

Gurudaspur Upazila Returning Officer Md. Ferdous Alam said, “Since the river is of third gender people, we have paid special attention so that no one can harm it.”
