Obaidul Islam Robi, Rajshahi City Representative
Dismissed OC of Puthia police station in Rajshahi is now in jail. A wise court has rejected the bail plea of Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shakil Uddin Ahmed, who was suspended from Puthia police station in a corruption case, and sent him to jail. The court had granted interim bail to OC Shakil when he surrendered before the court on Wednesday. On November 23, the High Court ordered OC Shakil Uddin Ahmed to surrender to the court.
On Sunday afternoon, Judge Ismat Ara of the Rajshahi Divisional Special Judge’s Court denied bail to OC Shakil and ordered him to be sent to jail. The Puthia Road Transport Motor Workers Union election was held on April 24. Nurul Islam went missing on June 10 due to that election. The next day, on the morning of June 11, the police recovered his body from a brick field called ‘SS Brickfield’ in Kathalbaria area of Puthia. Nigar Sultana, daughter of the deceased, submitted a statement to the police on the same day mentioning the names of eight persons including Abdur Rahman Patal as the main killers.
Later, Nigar Sultana, daughter of Nurul Islam, filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking directions for judicial inquiry into the allegation. After the High Court gave a judicial order, the issue of changing the statement was also proved. Due to which the dismissed OC of Puthia police station is now in jail.
