A schoolgirl has been raped by her neighbor in Roumari upazila of Kurigram. After the incident on Saturday afternoon, the father of the raped child filed a case with the Roumari police station but the police could not arrest the accused till Monday. However, Roumari police said that the accused could not be arrested as he was a fugitive since the incident.
According to locals and police sources, the girl was returning home from school on Saturday afternoon and was staying alone at home around 5 pm. At that time, his neighbor Saidur Rahman’s son Shamim (15) called the girl to their house and raped her. The girl was later rescued and admitted to Roumari Health Complex. Hospital authorities initially reported signs of child rape.
The father of the child student said, “My daughter came from school and Shamim raped her because she was alone at home.” For this reason I have filed a case against him at the police station. But police have not yet arrested him. Roumari Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Montasser Billah confirmed the incident and said that it has been sent to Kurigram General Hospital for DNA test and evidence of rape and efforts are being made to arrest the accused.
