A court in Gaibandha on Tuesday sentenced three so-called jinn kings to life in prison and fined them Rs 100,000 each in a case of gang-raping a mother and daughter for soliciting hidden money by calling them on a mobile phone. Judge Md. Abdur Rahman of Gaibandha Women and Child Suppression Tribunal-2 delivered the verdict. Five accused were present in the court when the verdict was announced.
The convicts are Belal Hossain, son of Mamtaz Uddin of Gosaipur village in Gobindaganj upazila, Emdadul Haque, son of Badiuzzaman Mia of the same village and Khwaja Mia, son of Dudu Mia of neighboring Shampur Parbartipur village. Besides, two accused have been acquitted. They are Azizul Islam, son of Abdul Quader of Hatiadah village in Satgachhi of the same upazila and Asadul Islam, son of Shahidul Islam of Sundail village.
Sources in the case said that on May 12, 2016, the accused called the mother and daughter of Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur and called them to Gobindganj upazila. They show greed to give hidden treasure to mother and daughter as the king of jinn. The victim’s mother and daughter moved to Gobindganj that night out of greed. Later, the gang took the mother and daughter to a secluded area of Amanathpur Baluar in the upazila and raped them in turn. The next day, the victims filed a rape case with the Gobindaganj Police Station accusing the unidentified persons. The police arrested five persons at that time. The judge pronounced the verdict on Tuesday after a lengthy hearing in the case.
Public Prosecutor (PP) Adv. Farooq Ahmed Prince said that on May 12, 2016, the accused called the mother and daughter from Jamalpur district to Gobindganj upazila saying that they would give them hidden money. Later they took them to Balnath area of Amanathpur upazila and raped them.
