The District Detective Branch (DB) has arrested two fraudsters in Gaibandha while transacting money with the necessary documents to get a job as a Bangladesh Police Constable in the guise of a police officer. Although they were arrested on the afternoon of November 14, Nowshad Mia, assistant inspector of district detective police and investigating officer of the case, confirmed the matter on Tuesday afternoon.

The arrested have been identified as Mohammad Asaduzzaman Sarkar alias Milon, 38, son of Mohammad Harun Sarkar and Mohammad Shahedul Islam alias Jarju, 48, son of late Ataullah Bepari of Uttar Kholahati (Dholmara) village of Kholahati union of Sadar upazila. Asaduzzaman Sarkar alias Milon is the editor of an online news portal called Gaibandha Pratidin and chairman of the central committee of the Safe Vehicle Chai Foundation. They have been sent to jail.

According to the police, the candidates for the post of Bangladesh Police Trainee Recruit Constable / 2021 were undergoing physical measurement and physical endurance test. At around 4:15 pm on November 14, 3/4 unidentified fraudsters, including those arrested inside the Maulat Mia Hotel and Restaurant in the Board Bazaar area adjacent to the police line, were transacting money with necessary documents to get a job as a Bangladesh Police Constable. A team of detectives from Gaibandha raided Moulat Mia Hotel and Restaurant on the basis of secret information. When the fraudsters tried to flee after sensing the presence of the police, Asaduzzaman Sarkar alias Milon and Md. Shahedul Islam alias Jarju were arrested.

The unknown 3/4 people who were with them managed to escape. During the raids, online copies of admission cards, resumes, educational qualifications, birth certificates and citizenship certificates of multiple candidates for the post of constable were recovered from the detainees along with cash. Shahjahan Mia, Assistant Inspector of Detective Police, has filed a case against 3/4 unidentified persons including Asaduzzaman Sarkar alias Milon and Mohammad Shahedul Islam alias Jarjuju at Gaibandha Sadar Police Station.

According to the statement of case, the arrested persons had confessed to taking police jobs in exchange for money during the preliminary interrogation. Apart from this, the unidentified accused, including the two accused, conspired with each other to keep the money and necessary documents in their custody during the transparent and impartial recruitment of Bangladesh Police by identifying the senior police officers and misleading the innocent candidates and their guardians. Which is an offense under Section 160/406/420 of Penal Code 160.

Gaibandha Sadar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masudur Rahman said this afternoon that Asaduzzaman Sarkar alias Milon and Mohammad Shahedul Islam alias Jarju have been sent to jail after preliminary interrogation.
