Due to the sudden increase in the price of oil by Tk 15 per liter, all types of public transport and transportation of goods have been suspended indefinitely from 8 am on Friday demanding adjustment of oil prices and fares. The decision was taken by the Goods Transport and Public Transport Owners Association in protest of the increase in diesel prices.
Bangladesh Truck-Covered Van Owners Association General Secretary Hossain. Majumder confirmed the matter on Thursday (November 4). “It is not possible to run our transport due to the increase in the price of diesel in Jihad,” he said. There is no rationale to increase such prices in a hurry.
According to a source in the Transport Owners Association, the movement of goods has been stopped in many places outside Dhaka. The transport strike is going to take effect today with an official announcement.
Safkat Manzur Biplob, Rajshahi divisional president of the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association and joint general secretary of the Rajshahi Road Transport Group, said the sudden rise in oil prices by Tk 15 per liter was unusual. In this situation, there is no adjustment in the price of oil with our current rent. If the fare is not increased, the transport owners will have to face losses. Buses and trucks will be closed on all routes in Rajshahi division from Friday demanding adjustment of fares with oil prices.
