Bangladesh’s per capita income now exceeds ৫ 2,554. According to the latest Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the per capita income for the last fiscal year was ২ 2,227. Per capita income has increased by ৭ 326 in one fiscal year.
2015-16 has been re-determined as the new base year for determining the total GDP of the country. Until then, 2005-06 was counted as the base year. As per the new base year, per capita income has increased from হাজার 2,228 to ৫ 2,554 in FY 2020-21.

Regarding the increase in per capita income, Selim Raihan, executive director of the South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM), said that the increase in per capita income does not ensure a fair distribution of national income among the people. Inequality has increased due to various reasons including Kovid. However, the positive side of per capita income growth is that the economy is dynamic. Ordinary people are benefiting from something. But it remains to be seen whether those gains will contribute to the transition of the poorest of the poor.
As per the 2015-16 base year, the per capita income of the previous few years has also increased. For example, in the 2015-16 financial year, the per capita income was ৬ 1,465. The new one has been 1 thousand 736 dollars. The per capita income has increased every year since then. As before, the per capita income in the fiscal year 2019-20 was ২৪ 2,024. Later it rose to ৩ 2,335.
