A mobile court has sentenced Kazi Mohammad Anwar Parvez (Enamul) of wards 6, 7 and 9 to six months in jail for arranging child marriage in Garisapara mahalla of Natore’s Gurudaspur upazila.
On Wednesday evening, on the basis of secret information, the Upazila Assistant Commissioner (VM) Nirbahi paid a fine of Tk 10,000 to the girl’s father and sentenced Kazi to six months in jail. Magistrate Md. Abu Russell. Later, a bond was taken to the effect that the girl will not marry until she is 18 years old.
Executive Magistrate Md Abu Russell said the raid was carried out at Suruj Ali’s house in Garisapara mahalla of the municipal headquarters on the basis of secret information. He married his 15-year-old daughter a month and a half ago. The operation was carried out in preparation for taking the girl away from her mother-in-law’s house after the Bauvat ceremony on Wednesday. The girl’s father has been fined Tk 10,000 and Kazi has been sentenced to six months imprisonment and a bond has been taken to the effect that he will not marry until he is 18 years old. He also said that such campaigns will continue in the public interest.
