About ten months ago, Alufa Begum’s name was included in the VGD list. The chairman had to pay money to make the list. However, he has not received VGD rice till date. Although there is a name in the list, Alufa is not alone in the team that did not get rice. At least 12 poor families like her have been deprived of this VGD facility.
Alufa Begum’s house is in Jogendranagar village of ward 4 of Biaghat union in Gurudaspur upazila. The victims lodged a written complaint with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer on Friday morning seeking redressal of the incident. The allegation has the signatures of 12 disadvantaged women whose names are on the VGD list.
The victim Alufa said that he was living on a daily wage. At the urging of the stomach, he approached the chairman to get the VGD card. But the chairman demanded money to include the name in the VGD card. Even though there was a lack of coronation to get his name in the list, he took money on interest and gave it to the chairman of Biyaghat Union Parishad, but he has not received any rice till date.
Among the victims, 12 women, including Taslima Begum, Salma Begum, a resident of Ward 4, Parveen Begum, Shapla Khatun of Ward 5 and Rina Khatun of Ward 8, said they paid the chairman for VGD about ten months ago even though they were poor. Despite promising to give the card at that time, Chairman Mozammel said that the name would be canceled later in the selection phase. Recently, the chairman himself returned the money of one of them.
Shiuli Begum, a victim of Ward 8, said that she recently found out that their names were on the VGD list. But the chairman himself picked up the rice of 12 poor people. That is why they have lodged a written complaint with the Upazila Nirbahi Officer.
However, Chairman Mozammel denied the allegations, saying his political opponents were spreading slander over the upcoming UP elections. Influencing some people by making false accusations. Moreover, the names of the complainants are in the list of VGD. He does not know why they do not drink rice.
According to the investigation, 3 people of Ward No. 4, 4 people of Ward No. 5, 2 people of Ward No. 6 and 1 woman of Ward No. 6 of Biyaghat Union have list names of VGD Chakra-2021. But they have not received this government benefit for ten months.
Guruduspur Upazila Executive Officer. Tamal Hossain confirmed that he had received complaints from VGD deprived people and said that he had come to know about the allegations. But about 10 months ago, the names of these poor people have been included in the list of VGD cards. The matter will be investigated and action will be taken.
