Billions of rupees have been spent on improving the construction work of Rajshahi Charghat first class municipality. There is no trace of the amount allocated for the construction of urban development infrastructure at the initiative of the government. The common people at the local level are just suffering daily. The government department is silent in search of a remedy.
Construction work worth around Tk 34 crore is nearing completion with the funding of UGP-3 for the implementation of urban development infrastructure. In this project, the work of providing clean water for the residents of Charghat first class municipality, arrangement of lamp post, pedestrian walkway, drainage system to eliminate waterlogging has not been completed. After completing the work of the contractor hired by the municipality, many have taken the money they received and left. But people of different professions have questioned what the locals are getting during the ordeal.
In this regard, Upazila Awami League president and former municipal mayor Anwar Hossain told this report that there is no shortage of allocation by the present government. But there is a lot of negligence in the implementation of the concerned department. Recently, footpaths, water lines, lamp posts and paved roads have been constructed in Charghat municipality area at a cost of crores of rupees. But the Rajshahi Roads and Highways Department (RHD) has destroyed those constructions. Due to which the government has lost crores of rupees. On the overall issue, he spoke to Samzuzzoha, the executive engineer of the RSA. The honest answer was that the municipality was banned from carrying out all kinds of construction work within the boundaries of the RHD. But they have done the construction work in their own way.
Replying to a reporter’s question, Samujuzzoha, executive engineer of RHD, said that work has started to improve the paved road from Baneshwar in Rajshahi to Aimbardi in Pabna. We have to work to free the land of the Reds. Completing larger government work is now a big competition for them. Sauj will not be responsible for the construction work of Charghat municipality.
Context. Rezaul Karim, an engineer of Charghat municipality, said the municipality has built on red land. However, their construction work started at the end of 2014. Sauz came much later and started road work. But both the departments are in a dilemma as to who will lose crores of rupees in this broken game.
Charghat municipal mayor Ekramul Haque said he had recently been elected. All construction or allocation has been completed before he took charge. The present has nothing to do with her. However, he is inspecting the quality of the ongoing construction work. He promised to provide all kinds of facilities to the residents of this municipality in future.
