The miscreants opened fire on the house of freedom fighter AM Rafiqullah, chairman of Puran Varenga UP in Bera upazila of Pabna. The incident took place around 4 am on Sunday. Locals are blocking the Dhaka-Pabna highway in Kashinathpur area in protest of the incident.
Freedom fighter AM Rafiqullah said, “Four terrorists on two motorcycles threw cocktails one after another at my house in Raghunathpur area around 4 am on Sunday.” When the people of the house heard the sound of the bomb and fled, the terrorists opened fire and fled. Later, the police came and recovered some unexploded cocktails.
He added that Azizul Haque, a former MP from Pabna-2 constituency, had built an illegal market by occupying 6 acres of government land at Arju Nagarbari Ghat. The former MP was angry with me for giving an interview to the media on this issue. My guess is that the terrorists carried out this attack with the intention of killing me on the instructions of the former MP.
Meanwhile, after the incident, supporters of Chairman Rafiqullah started protesting by blocking the Dhaka-Pabna highway in Kashinathpur area. At this time the traffic on the road was stopped. They immediately demanded the arrest of former MP Azizul Haque Arju.
However, former MP Azizul Haque Arzu has denied any involvement in the attack. He said false allegations had been made as part of a series of political conspiracies. They are trying to trap me by making things happen in a pre-planned way. I will deal with all conspiracies politically.
Officer-in-charge of Aminpur Police Station Raushan Ali said, “I have received news of the attack.” Police have been dispatched to the spot. Legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
