Police arrested a goat thief and sent him to jail on Saturday. The thief was fleeing on Friday (September 18) morning, stealing a goat from the side of the road. At that time the locals arrested him in handcuffs and handed him over to the police. The incident took place at Dakshin Khaleya Nakkati village of Gangachara police station in Rangpur. The arrested thief Hamidul Islam (40) is the son of late Mofel Uddin of Gokul village under Rangpur Sadar Police Station.
According to police and eyewitness sources, Ujjwal Chandra Sarkar, son of Upandranath Sarkar of Dakshin Khaleya Nakkati village, tied up his Khasi goat on the side of the road near his house on Friday morning. After a while, the thief was taking the goat in his lap. The locals shouted when they saw an unknown person taking the goat away. Hearing the screams, the people including the goat owner came and arrested the thief, beat him up and informed the police. The police came and recovered the thief from the spot and brought him to the police station. The next day, Saturday (September 18), police remanded him in custody through a court.
Gangachara Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sushant Kumar Sarkar said Hamidul Islam was sent to custody today (Saturday) in a goat theft case.
