The court has ordered to send three BNP leaders, including the mayor of Naogaon, to jail in separate cases in connection with clashes between government leaders and activists.
They appeared in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashraful Islam around 12 noon on Thursday (September 18) and applied for bail. The judge denied bail and ordered them to be sent to jail.
The convicts are Naogaon municipality mayor and former district BNP president Nazmul Haque Soni, former district BNP general secretary Zahidul Islam Dhalu and former municipal BNP member secretary Mizanur Rahman (Mizan).
Defendant’s lawyer Minhazul Islam said the accused were on four-week bail from the high court in the sabotage case. Their bail was extended due to coronation. They later surrendered to the court of the three Chief Judicial Magistrates on the direction of the High Court and applied for bail. But the judge denied their bail and ordered them to be sent to jail.
It is learned that Naogaon Sadar Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Mannan filed the case on March 30 under the Anti-Terrorism Act for obstructing government work, attacking police and disrupting the security of government property.
